BookRanger

A shipped mobile app turning neighborhood reading trails into a gamified adventure.

01

The Problem

Design and ship a mobile experience — not a concept, a real installable app — that gets families and kids exploring neighborhood Little Free Libraries on foot or bike, with enough game mechanics to make a reading habit feel like an adventure.

02

The Process

BookRanger is built around a 5-tab structure: Home, Explore, Tap, Journal, and Ranks. Onboarding introduces the concept in three screens before dropping users into a live map of an 11-stop “Story Loop” — a walkable/bikeable trail connecting Little Free Libraries, parks, and community landmarks.

Each stop is GPS/NFC-checkable, and every check-in earns a stamp toward a personal Journal. Gamification layers — streaks, rare stamp drops, and a weekly community leaderboard — were designed to turn a single walk into a repeatable habit rather than a one-time novelty.

The Outcome

This isn’t a mockup — every screen shown here is a real, working build. The screens below show the actual onboarding flow, the live map with an active route selected, a populated Journal with real stamp cards, and a functioning weekly leaderboard with real rank and streak data.

Location names shown have been relabeled for privacy; the underlying app, mechanics, and UI are unchanged from production.
